New Ski school director in Ski Portillo.

Barnes steps into the position of an impressive line-up of former Portillo Ski School Directors, including her husband Michael Rogan, Stein Ericksen, Sigi Grottendorfer, Othmar Schneider, and Peter Estin.

As with her predecessors, Barnes has the experience and credentials to fill this prestigious role. In addition to 16 previous years working as a ski instructor and trainer at Portillo, Barnes has more than 20 years of teaching and training experience. She is member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) National Alpine Demonstration Team, a PSIA-Western Division Examiner, and a PSIA Level III instructor. Barnes has been a Heavenly Mountain Resort Instructor and Staff Trainer since 1989. Ski magazine has recognized her twice as a Top 100 instructor as well as a member of the Ski magazine Test Team. Barnes is former technical director of Hunter Mountain Ski and Snowboard School (1997-2000) and Coach for the North American Ski Training Center.

The Ski School is composed of 35 ski and snow professionals, from 10 different countries, including disciplines such as alpine and telemark skiing, snowboarding and adaptive training.

New Ski Portillo Mobile Site (WAP)

New this year, is the Ski Portillo Mobile website for instant access from your cell phone (i.e. smartphones including Iphone & Blackberry).

The site, m.skiportillo.com is available in Spanish, English and Portuges and displays content from prices & reservation forms to telephone & e-mail contacts. Throughout the season, the site will also include actual information on weather and roads to Santiago-Portillo and Mendoza-Portillo.

New Outdoor Massage

Portillo is launching a new outdoor massage program which after a long ski day will allow you to enjoy the amazing views of the Laguna del Inca. There is nothing better than the sunsets from the heated pool and Jacuzzi area.

Portillo also offers Aqua Fitness classes and Watsu (Therapy in the pool).

Cinema Renovation

This season sees an improvement to the Portillo Hotel cinema, with new arm chairs, curtains and more. With more comfort passengers can enjoy a movie and other scheduled programs, including ski techniques forums with our ski school director.

Children meal time

We have created a new dinner experience totally for Children. From 19:30 in the Autoservicio, children will be able to eat in a fun environment with a specialized menu, tables & chairs especially for them. This provides a chance for the children to interact with their new friends during their stay in Portillo.

Punto Verde; Portillo in pro-recycling

To help the environment, Portillo has installed Punto Verde (recycling bins) in the Autoservicio. These recycling bins are for papers, plastics, cans, organics & batteries where we encourage guests to dispose of materials for recycling.

Gym renovation

For everyone who wants to keep in shape we have renovated the weights room & gym including new floors.

Ski shop

For season 2010, we have new high performance stock of snowboards and other equipment; and have installed new machinery for maintenance of our rental equipment.

New facilities for the workers

Portillo hosts more than 450 guests a week from all over the world and has more than 480 workers to provide the best service for our guests. The personal attention and friendly service has been a brand of Portillo for more than 60 years.
